“I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.”
My Stance on AI
Among other things, I’m a creative writer. I have started a collaborative research process with a paid generative artificial intelligence assistant. So far, I believe it would open the pod bay doors if I asked. 🤖
I use AI precisely the way I use search engines—as a time-saving digital tool to help me discover relevant historical and geographical data, which I use to ground my fiction with real-world gravity. I fact-check the leads I discover with AI and online searches to find citable sources that were researched and written by fellow humans.
I will occasionally use AI as a set of fresh eyes to spot missed punctuation or other grammatical errors. I do not, however, incorporate any AI-derived writing into my work. I will continue to fling em-dashes and Oxford commas into my prose like ninja throwing stars and daggers with reckless human abandon. 🗡️
I do not use AI in any capacity whatsoever to produce my visual art. Period.
